Negotiating Disputes

In real estate we have a multitude of tasks, one of them is negotiating disagreements between neighbours.

On a busy Saturday, with numerous open for inspections on the go we had to split our forces into one man units.

Our new guy, keen to please, volunteered to man one of our out posts. Equipped with the necessities for his mission, enthusiasm and mobile phone at the ready and dressed to kill. He turned up at a open for inspection to find two neighbouring parties in a heated discussion with police in attendance over boundary rights.

He quickly surveyed the situation and advanced. Noticing the opposing forces were’t giving any ground, he entered the fray. As he got closer, they did not notice him so he put his hands in the air and sang out “Oi”.. they turned and spotted this well dressed person, arms fully extended over his head advancing forward. He had broken their concentration on the matter at hand. His diplomatic reply “ who is buying and who is selling? “. Stunned silence and lost for words. He had disarmed them of their immediate anger.

He proceeded to negotiate a peaceful resolution. On returning to the office, he put his equipment away and said with a large grin on is face “ great day, looks like l sold the property and listed the neighbours house”.

After telling the story of his engagement with opposing forces we promoted him for private to Sergent and head of the intelligence unit.
